Senior PHP-Developer — remote job in Ukraine (US Company)

The Senior Software Developer’s primary duty is to enhance our website’s proprietary software solution. You will be developing web applications using PHP and MySQL ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. The Senior Software Developer will be responsible for developing and integrating front-end elements with the back-end application. A solid understanding of both back-end and front-end technologies is required.

This is a full-time, independent contractor position who will work from home from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. Salary will be paid in U.S. dollars (amount dependent on experience and knowledge) and include paid time off and holidays.

Responsibilities:

Build efficient, testable, and reusable PHP modules easily integrated with front-end code

Build dynamic web apps using PHP, MySQL

Work with other members of the software development team in defining and implementing the next stage of the architecture

Build HTML5/CSS3 layouts from PSD designs and PDF wireframes

Assist in solving complex performance and/or architectural challenges as they appear — quickly solving problems, bugs, and compatibility issues

Gain an overall understanding of our current web applications, including the front-end and back-end components

Work with other team members to improve the user experience for internal users and external customers

Quickly analyze production problems and provide troubleshooting and support

Develop complete unit and regression test cases to make sure components are thoroughly tested in an automated manner

Collaborate with the QA teams to define and implement rigorous performance, stability and scalability testing

Work directly with software and product management team to ensure the software fully meets new functional requirements

Work with software team defining integration plans with third party vendors leveraging REST services and other third party APIs

Troubleshoot, test, and maintain the core product software and database to ensure strong optimization and functionality

Develop and deploy new features to facilitate new processes and procedures as necessary

Follow and enhance internal procedures and coding standards

Requirements:

Degree in Computer Science

10+ years of experience developing web applications in PHP and other languages

5+ years of advanced knowledge and experience using PHP PDO and object-oriented PHP programming

Thorough understanding of relational databases including MySQL

Deep understanding of MVC design patterns and frameworks including Phalcon

Ability to code without a framework

Experience with the limitations of PHP as a platform and its workarounds

Strong understanding of front-end technologies including HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript and associated frameworks (i.e., React, jQuery)

Understanding of responsive web design

Strong knowledge of the common PHP and web server security threats and defenses

Fundamental understanding of design principles building scalable web applications

Proficient understanding of version control tools, such as Mercurial, Subversion, Git as well as workflow management tools such as Teamcity, Jenkins

Experience refactoring and documenting existing code

Experience setting up and maintaining server LAMP stack environments

Ability to build and consume custom SOAP and REST APIs
